Castle Garden School is an independent specialist school for autistic children aged five to eleven and is now proud to be in its third academic year. Situated in the centre of Guildford, the school provides a highly specialised and nurturing educational environment designed to meet the complex needs of its pupils. Since opening to a small number of pupils in June 2023, the school has grown steadily and now supports a full cohort of 32 pupils, all of whom present with a range of communication, sensory, social and learning profiles. The school delivers personalised teaching and learning within an autism‑specific environment, ensuring that each child’s individual needs, strengths and therapeutic priorities are fully understood and supported. Its curriculum is shaped by pupils’ EHCP outcomes and is underpinned by integrated clinical input, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and creative psychotherapy. This enables pupils to make meaningful progress through carefully sequenced Individual Therapeutic and Education Plans (ITEPs) and approaches that prioritise communication, emotional regulation, and readiness for learning. Castle Garden School offers a unique blend of specialist education, therapy and pastoral support for children across a wide spectrum of need. Many pupils have previously experienced disrupted education or unsuccessful placements, and the school’s highly structured, neuro‑affirming and relationship‑based approach allows them to build confidence, develop positive peer relationships, and re‑engage successfully with learning. In this specialist setting, pupils’ capabilities are recognised, nurtured and celebrated, supporting each child to achieve their full potential both in education and in life.
