Engaging with Books – Summer Term
This week in school we are launching DEAR time. DEAR stands for ‘drop everything and read’. We know that accessing books, whether to increase knowledge and skills or for pleasure, is really important for the development of our pupils. This will look different for each of our pupils and may include picture books, sensory, fiction or non-fiction. What we are trying to do is increase their awareness and engagement with books.
Therefore every day pupils and staff will engage in 20 minutes DEAR time after lunch. Pupils can choose from one of the books already in school or bring in one of their own.
We already have many activities in school that focus on reading, including choosing time in the book corner, Storytime online, and listening to staff reading aloud. If you have any other suggestions please do feel free to let us know.
